Strategy and Reporting
“The SustainAbility team consistently provides Abbott with invaluable insights about evolving stakeholder needs, concerns and expectations. This strategic advice helps ensure our citizenship programs are thoroughly aligned with our core business strategy, and help us measure and document meaningful outcomes that shape the future of our industry.”
– Kathy Pickus, Divisional Vice President, Global Citizenship and Policy
Description
SustainAbility has worked with Abbott since 2003, when the company joined our Engaging Stakeholders program to help advance its reporting and accountability initiatives. Shortly thereafter, SustainAbility collaborated with Abbott to develop a water management strategy, based upon our review of current water management practices, its impacts locally and globally, insights from key stakeholders and a benchmark of Abbott against industry best practice.
Since then, we have worked together to assess and evolve Abbott’s corporate citizenship reporting practices over multiple years and to identify new approaches to materiality and stakeholder engagement. Most recently, we helped design and facilitate a management workshop focused on innovating business and partnership models to improve access to healthcare in the developing world. In 2009, Abbott also hosted SustainAbility’s Fall 2009 US Engaging Stakeholders Workshop, which convened over 30 leading sustainability and communications practitioners to learn best practices on next generation reporting, public policy, sustainable branding, and stakeholder engagement.
